I have worked for the Company for just under 18 years now. I had been working for another construction equipment dealer as a quarry based Engineer but the work had dried up. Volvo Construction Equipment had won a local contract and were looking for a Service Engineer. Volvo is a reputable company and working for them was a natural step in my career.
I began working as a Service Engineer and have progressed to become a Product specialist, and then onto the position of Service Solution Manager. Along the way I have had internal and external training in many areas relating to vehicle mechanics, health and safety, and other industry related topics.
As SMT GB’s Service Solutions Manager I am tasked with looking at keeping the company up to date with current working methods, ensuring that we are able to deliver industry leading service to our customers. This means working with both internal and outside suppliers to use technology, and modern principles to suit our working methods, and to ensure that our workforce has the best tooling and equipment to carry out their roles.
There have been many times when working for the Company has been great fun and interesting. I entered the master’s competition which included trips abroad and time carrying out some great activities. I also have found myself down caves, and sleeping on a mountain top! Working on heavy plant also means that I get to go to some amazing sites around the country and places where you generally wouldn’t be able to go.
Working for SMT GB has many benefits including a good pension, and health care cover to mention a few. The biggest factor is that the company has a ‘family’ feel about it. It is small enough to know many people who work here. People do tend to stay for a long time so over the years you make some great friends.
